This March, I’ll be taking on an epic challenge: running the Tokyo Marathon in support of the Follicular Lymphoma Foundation (FLF)—an organisation close to my heart and one I’m proud to work for.
This will be my first-ever marathon, and to say it’s outside of my comfort zone is an understatement! Training through the cold winter months is tough, but it’s nothing compared to the courage shown by those living with follicular lymphoma every day.
I absolutely loved visiting Japan—the rich culture, incredible food, and warm hospitality made it an unforgettable experience. That’s why I decided to put my name in the hat for the Tokyo Marathon! It’s one of the seven World Marathon Majors, and since the course is relatively flat, I’m hoping that gives me a little extra boost on race day!
This endeavor holds more than personal achievement, it aims to make a tangible impact on those living with Follicular Lymphoma (FL), a currently incurable blood cancer.
A few years ago, a close family member was diagnosed with blood cancer, so I have personal experience of the impact that blood cancers can have on the lives of patients and their families. This is also a real driver for me to work in this field and make a lasting impact.
At FLF, we’re on a mission to find a cure for follicular lymphoma and find it fast. What makes this charity so special is its commitment to innovation, collaboration, and pushing the boundaries of cancer research—not just for FL but with potential breakthroughs that could benefit other cancers too.
In my role as FLF Director of Patient and Clinical Research Programs, I’m constantly inspired by the stories of resilience from those living with FL and the incredible dedication of the scientists driving progress. I am passionate about the work the Foundation is doing. Knowing that our efforts are making a global impact motivates me every single day, and it’s why I’m running this marathon.
Every step taken, every bead of sweat, every blister and every pound/dollar raised will contribute to the groundbreaking work of the FLF. Your support will fuel my miles and, more importantly, accelerate the path toward a future where no one has to live with follicular lymphoma.
